The Nest delves into the concept of learned helplessness - when a personal chooses not to do something to change his/her circumstances because of the belief that action will be useless. It can manifest in different circumstances on on different scale: domestic violence, bureaucracy, voting behaviour, life under tyranny etc.
8 performers. 4 of them are inside the square, the limits of which are marked by lights on the floor; the other 4 are outside.
4 participants from the audience are asked to balance a brick on their head. Every time a brick falls down or a participant chooses to take it down, the performers outside the square move the lights closer to the centre, making the square smaller.
The participating audience member can then either swap places with one of the performers inside the square or leave and another audience member can take their place.
